Imitation? I'm Flattered
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so today I feel flattered.
As regular readers will know, I don’t usually talk about my own business in the diary but this week I saw a TV advert from a national dealer group who have ‘borrowed’ one of our slogans and look like they are trying to mimic our culture. Some would be annoyed but certainly not me. I am blown away that a single site dealer in Leeds is setting the pace in a changing world, especially for car buyers, who now have access to all the information and pricing that we have. They need help, questions answering and a human they can trust to talk to, rather than a salesman who just wants to sell a car. How the world is changing!
Of course I might be concerned if other dealers copy our culture, it might not be good for my business, but we now have over 2500 reviews across Facebook, Google, Yell, Auto Trader and Judge Service which actually confirms that the reality matches the perception, i.e. we really do what we say. “We Wont Sell You a Car But We Will Help You Buy One”. That’s the difficult bit.
Anyone can say something in the advert, but actually doing what you say is the hard bit. That’s why I’m not too worried and we’re all doing our best to stay one step ahead.
